Mark your calendars for our annual Summer BBQ at Currier Woods on Wednesday, July 15th.  Check out the details.  Come one, come all - to the annual Summer Cookout at poolside in Currier Woods. We have reserved the clubhouse and pool, so the weather will not stop us no matter what! Neal Fisher will be playing the tunes from 7pm - ???  Bring you swim suits and appetites!! Sharon and Jonathan will have the grills set up, and soda, water, burgers, dogs and paper/plastic goods will be provided (if you want to bring something else for the grill, feel free). If everyone brings a salad or desert, that would be great!  Take exit 26 on I84, go DOWNHILL toward Cheshire on Rte 70 one mile to the light at Marion Road, take a left, and go 1/4 mile to the entrance to Currier Woods. Go to the circle, and take the second right on to Promontory Drive. go to the bottom of the hill, over the wicked speed bump, and the clubhouse is on your left. Charge to get in is $6.00 for Members, and $8.00 for Guests. Call Sharon and Jonathan Houck @ (203) 272-0560 for directions or to volunteer to help with the set-up (around 5:00 pm) and/or take-down.

Meet Harry Fisher's Great Grandsons and Neal's Great Nephews!  These adorable twins make their home in Springfield, VT.

Cape Golf Weekend needs volunteers!  Wendy can handle the golf and arrange for the house and sleeping allocations but needs someone to care of the food; buying, bringing it up to the cape, getting people to do cooking, assigning tasks and final clean up.  Please contact Wendy if you're willing to do this.  If no one volunteers, we'll have to scrub the weekend.

Camping Weekend in Rhode Island was postponed because of inclement weather.  It has been rescheduled at Melville Ponds August 28-30.

Your browser lacks the needed plug in to view this slideshowHiking!  Mt. Laurel has a very active Sunday hiking program.  Some of the hikes are more challenging than others.  Here are a few shots of the club's recent trek at Mt. Monadnock. 1700 feet of vertical in 2 miles!  Check out the photos. Thanks to Rick Sullivan and Jeanne Delehanty for overseeing the popular club pastime.

Monday Night Biking: All rides begin at 6:00 but plan to arrive early to set up your bike and find people to ride with. Helmets are mandatory, as is the sign out/sign in policy with waiver. Our friends from Newington and other ski clubs join us on many of the rides, and you are welcome to bring others to join the group. Ride lengths vary and there is always a ride for even novice riders.    Next ride:  July 6.  This is a bonus ride originating out of Suburban Sports in Berlin.  It follows the same routes that we used a few weeks ago when Annie hosted it.  You're on your own for dinner afterwards.  A full list of upcoming rides is posted in our Biking Page.  A reminder that helmets are mandatory, as is the sign out/in policy. Bring water and plan to arrive before the 6:00 start time, if possible. Andy Le Clair, Biking Chairperson, 283-4889.  Recently, Annie Alden hosted our ride out of Suburban Sports in Berlin.  For the third year in a row,  Cannondale's Lou Forgione brought demo bikes for us to ride and many MTL members took advantage of the opportunity to try the latest lightweight carbon fiber bikes.  A big MTL thank you goes out to Annie, Lou, and the staff at Suburban.  Check out the slideshow.

Wayne Cormer recently participated in the BoulderBoulder10K in Colorado with his 20 year grandson David from Germany. This event draws 53,000 participants!  Check out the photos.

Congratulations to our newly elected board!  President Kay Leatherman, Vice President Chuck Hannah, Secretary Bob Wallace, Treasurer Rick Sullivan, and Asst. Secretary/Treasurer Betsy Chase.  Board members are Kathy Amenta, Pat Revoir, Mandy Weber, Scott Weber, Scott Farrar, Irene Murray, and Angie Testa.

Have you checked out our page of Kayak events?

A few years ago, Neal Fisher circumnavigated the Big Island of Hawaii.  Fortunately for us he kept a diary and it is now online at TopiaRoad.com.

Bike Weekend Extravaganza at the Lodge in Vermont, July 17, 18, 19, 2009 hosted by Neal Fisher.  Neal has put together an event you don't want to miss!  Click here for complete details of the weekend. Warm-up party on Friday Night. Saturday ride choices; 26 mile ride includes a stop at Stoughton Pond and the Downers Corners ice cream store; 45 mile ride goes into New Hampshire, returns over the Cornish-Windsor Bridge (the longest in the United States), and around Ascutney Ski Area; 65 mile ride climbs up and over to Woodstock, a beer at the Long Trail Brewery, and back through Ludlow. Saturday night meal and bonfire (these are two separate activities).  These are definitely memorable rides.  Look what happened on the 26 mile ride a few years ago.   Contact Lisa Durland for reservations at lodge@mtlski.com or 860-533-1981. Questions, suggestions; contact Neal Fisher at wnealfisher@gmail.com or 860-665-9653.

Mt. Laurel is now on Facebook.  With the demise of our online forum (the spammers won again) this affords us a Discussion Board for posting messages to other members.

Did you know that your MTL membership card can get you discounts?  Nathan Mag's Mag and Son Clothing and Uniform has been added to our Discounts page.

The annual banquet was held Saturday night, May 17th,  at the Wethersfield Country Club and everyone had a wonderful time!  A huge MTL thank you goes out to the members who worked so hard to bring this about:  Sharon Houck, Aletta Chamberland, Karen Grossman, Paula Felt, Linda Dinda, Carol Rowan, Lisa Durland, Faye Ewen, Harry Fisher, Terri Tabshey, Pat Revoir, Charlie Luckhardt, Lori Bernard, Susan Grant, Phyllis Campbell, Maryann Thomas, Trish Pearce, Lisa Wnuck, and Patti Clairwood. We thanked our outgoing board (special thanks to Jonathan Houck for four terrific years at the helm) and officers and welcomed the new.  Once again Karen Grossman did a wonderful job handling the MC duties.  Check out the slideshow! Charlotte LeClair Lorie Bernard, Wayne Cormier and Rich Clairwood submitted some shots from the CT Breast Health Initiative Walk in the Park that was held on Saturday, May 9th.  MTL was well represented. Thanks to Charlotte and RIck Sullivan for spearheading this event who ask that we share the following: "Thank you team MT Laurel Skiers!  We had 20 walkers, one runner and one biker attend the event on May 9 and raised over $300 for the CT Breast Health Initiative.  Next year we plan to expand the team and consider it the pre-Sunday hike.  Another thanks who those who made pledges to the team and who joined the Happy Hour the night before when I distributed the bibs and shirts. " Where's the High School Picture of the Week? With the onset of the summer meeting schedule we're going to suspend the contest until September.  In the meantime, if you haven't sent in your photo please do so to webmaster@mtlski.com.   Take a review of the morphs that have been created to date

DVDs of the 2009 Lip Sync are available for $10.  Copies of 2008 can be had for $5.  See Pat Moore at a meeting.  Profits go toward the lodge fund.

Lip Sync 2009 was held on April 22nd and seven great acts performed before a packed audience.  Videos are now onlineYou may have to scroll down a bit for this year's.  YouTube has blocked Rich and Patty's terrific rendition of "I Got You Babe" because: "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by WMG". Hard to believe that 44 years after it was recorded anyone could object to it's being aired on YouTube.   It can be seen on blip.tv instead.  Check out the slideshow.  A huge MTL thank you goes out to DJ Neal Fisher, videographer Ron Scardacchi, and especially to our hosts John and Faye Ewen.  LipSync was performed at our "new old" home, the Whinstone Tavern at Stanley Golf Course.  Future Wednesday meetings will be held there.Check out the Kayak schedule for the upcoming season!

MTL Member George Aspland has rolled out an online eZine called TopiaRoad.  It's devoted to skiing and snowboarding.  Authors are sought for articles.  Interested in sharing one?

Personal note from your webmaster Pat Moore:  At the 2008 NASTAR National Championships in Steamboat history was made.  For the first time a racer is National Champion in more than one category.  I won the Men's 60-64 Snowboard title and followed it up with the Men's 60-64 Gold Division Skiing title.   While out there I maintained an online diary.  Plan on joining me at the Nationals next year!  Update:  Ski Racing Magazine made note of the achievement.

Your website has been in existence since 1999.  I found a site that archives old webpages and was able to find how our site looked in 2003.  Update:  I was able to find an archive of our site from 1997 when Todd Sun maintained it.  Check it out!

The Killington Trike Race is only a memory but you can relive those memories! Check out the Blues Brothers and Blues Babes Tribute Page!  Woo Hoo!!  Neal Fisher has just submitted a recap of our 1995 entryYou gotta read this one.  It's amazing we even went on to a third year after this!  More photos soon!

Have you ever visited the MTL Videos pageSome of them have audio so turn down your speakers if you're at work.

A new magazine devoted to skiing in the east has been launched.  Click to print the subscription form.

Important news: We have instituted a printable online roster. The LOGIN and PASSWORD are the same ones you use for the searchable roster. This online version is updated every time we receive new information. Print a copy for home, office, and your glove compartment.
