Mt. Laurel Biking Schedule 2010

Join the fun this summer!  Biking is a great way to keep in shape for skiing, hiking and bikinis.  Each Monday evening at 6:00, we meet to exercise, and then socialize with our MTL and often, NSC friends.  Each ride is sponsored by a member, who agrees to mark the route, provide maps, and a gathering place when we finish.  Participants must have a bike in working order, a helmet and agree to sign out/in from the ride.  Water and bike gloves are strongly recommended.  Rides are available at different levels, from 10 to 30 miles, so plan to arrive before 6:00 to prepare your bike, sign out and ride with others.  Pizza, beer and wine usually follows the ride at a nearby restaurant - the cost is determined by the ride leader, based on how much we eat and drink.  Options for your own meal are also available.

May 10 - New Hartford, Maradino Plaza, John Eason, 860-674-9348. From Hartford, take Rte 44 West to New Hartford. Ride starts from Maradino grocery stor parking lot, across the street from Satan's Kingdom State Park. This is a beautiful scenic route that goes through Riverton. Pizza follows the ride.
 
May 17 - South Windsor, Angie Testa and Joe Mangione, 860-646-7505. Route 91 North or South to Exit 35A, Rte 291, exit 4. At end of exit, go straight onto Rte 30/Ellington Rd. for 1.4 miles. Turn right onto Pleasant Valley Rd, right into back lot of church. Pizza follows.
 
May 24 - Meriden, Charlie Luckhardt, 860-716-7036, and Moe Gaherty, 860-301-3920. From Middletown area, take I-91 South to I-691 West. Take Exit 6/Lewis Ave.  Left off exit onto Lewis Ave for 0.2 miles.  Left onto Kensington Ave for 0.6 miles.  Turn left onto Chamberlain Hwy (CT-71) and immediate left into Westfield Shopping Center. We are meeting at first parking lot on left.  From I-84 West, take I-691 East to exit 5.  Turn left off exit onto Chamberlain Hwy (CT-71).  Turn right into Westfield Shopping Center (across from Target). We are meeting at first parking lot on left.  Pizza follows (BYOB beer or wine) at  Napoli Pizza, 311 W.Main St, Meriden.

May 31 - No ride, Memorial Day
 
June 7 - Berlin, Suburban Sports, 25 Webster Square, Anne Alden, 860- 828-3378. Rte. 9 South to exit 22, right off exit onto Mill St., right onto Webster Square Rd. Pizza follows.  Cannondale Demo fleet will be here again!!!!

June 14 - Manchester, Deane Young, 860-647-8844.  Rte 84 East to Rte 384 East, exit 3.  Bear right off exit ramp and go straight through downtown Manchester.  At top of hill, take a left onto Center St.  to #141, on right.  Joint ride with NSC; gourmet picnic follows, rain or shine.  Bring a chair.
 
June 21 - 166 Goodspeed Ave, Meriden, Dan and Debbie Roman, 203-237-1727.  Rte 91 to 691 West to exit 4, go left at end of ramp.  Go to the first red light and take a right onto Spruce St.  Go to the end and turn left onto Johnson Ave.  Take the first right onto Goodspeed Ave.  Rte 84 West to exit 27, 691 East, exit 4.  Right at end of ramp to first red light, then right onto Spruce St.  Go to end and take left onto Johnson Ave, first right onto Goodspeed.  Joint ride with Meriden, NSC and MTL.  Picnic and pool party follow, bring a bathing suit, towel, and chair.
 
June 28 - Avon, Trish and Steve Molloy, 86--693-9181.  Rte 84 West to exit 39, Farmington center, take right onto Rte 10 North.  Take left at first light onto Old Farms Rd, meet at Fisher Meadows and park  on right.  Pizza follows.
 
July 5 - No ride, Holiday
 
July 12 - Wethersfield, Kathy Amenta, 860-878-6937, and Bob Arther, 203-634-0626.  Meet at Wethersfield Board of Ed building.  From Berlin Tpke/Rte 15, take Rte 175, Wells Rd, East into Wethersfield.  After the light at the top of the hill, take the next right, Willow St.  From Silas Deane go West onto rte 175.  After passing Ridge Rd, take a left at the next light onto Willow St.  Park in school lot on right.  Pizza follows ride.
 
July 19 - Bloomfield, Neal Fisher, 860-665-9653, 860-301-2230, cell.  Jim Mays Memorial ride which celebrates the life of Jim, an avid cyclist, hiker, and actor.  This is also a joint ride with NSC. 
Rte 91 North, exit 35B, Rte 218 West.  Go through 3 lights, 3rd blinking, turn right onto Blue Hills Ave, Rte 187.  At 2nd light, turn left onto Park Ave, go past Bloomfield High School, cross RR tracks and turn into North East Plaza on right.  Pizza follows.
 
July 26 - East Windsor, Joe Colett, 860-623-8708.  Take 91 North to exit 44, right off exit, approximately 1 mile on right to East Windsor Junior/Senior High.  Park in the back of the school.  Pizza follows.
 
August 4 - Simsbury, Ellen Gilbert, 860-965-2875, cell.  From 91 North, take exit 37, Rte 305.  Go West on 305, right on Rte 187 North, then take Rte 189 North into Tariffville.  In Tariffville, take a left onto Rte 315, right onto Rte 10/202.  Go .5 mile North on Rte 10/202.  Follow to the International Skating rink on left.  Park in the back.  Pizza follows.

August 9 Joint ride with NSC, George Lape, 860-693-1866, Talcott Notch Plaza, Farmington.  84 West to exit 39.  At light turn right onto Farmington Ave.  At 4th traffic light turn left into plaza.  Meet in the back lot.  Pizza follows.

August 16 - Wethersfield, Kathy Amenta, 860-878-6937, and Bob Arther, 203-634--0626.  Refer to the July newsletter, this is a repeat ride, so if you missed it last month be sure to come.  If you joined us last month, you know it's a great ride.  Pizza follows.
 
August 23 - Clyde Proch and Scott Farrar, 860-568-2656.  Meet at 994 Forbes Street, East Hartford at their home and stay for a picnic with MTL and NSC friends.  84 East to exit 58.  Right to Silver Lane, left onto Silver Lane to Forbes Street.  Right onto Forbes Street.
 
August 30 - last ride! Joint ride and huge party with Meriden, MTL, and Newington Ski Clubs.  Ron Kapraszewski and Lisa Day, 33 Village Gate Drive, Southington, 860-621-6382.  84 or 91 to 691, exit 4.  Take a right if Westbound, left if Eastbounto onto 322.  Take a right at the 1st traffic light onto Meriden Ave.  Take first right ont Village Gate Drive.  Bring a chair and bathing suit for the party and picnic.
