Dear Member,

Welcome to the 44th edition of Mt.Laurel's e-blasts.  We're experimenting with a new format which we think you'll like.
First off - a couple of important items:  Next Wednesday, March 14th, we'll be holding a St. Patrick's Dinner at Zabbara's Restaurant.  Our pre-registered headcount is down.  It's important to notify Janice Bacon no later than Saturday if you plan to attend.  Cost is $14. Her home number is 860-482-8401.

We have sad news to report.  MTL member Emil Demikat's mother passed away on March 6th.  Click for details.  We're delighted to report that Jean Clark and John Menze became engaged on the recent Jay Peak trip!

On Snow Wrap-up

Official results are still a few days away but it appears that Newington Ski Club won by a substantial margin. They now join us as the only two clubs in the council to garner the coveted Triple Crown - Ambassador Competition, Monday Night Racing, and On Snow. After five consecutive wins at On Snow, Mt. Laurel garnered the fifth place spot this year.  There were certainly some bright spots - our fastest four racers in the Team Race - Chip Simplicio, Jon Nelson, Fran McPhee, and Marguerite Meinzer, edged out Danbury for the coveted top spot.  Carol Sweeney, Jo Schmitz, and Marguerite Meinzer gave us a substantial first place victory in the Women's Race.  Bill Balocki and Liz Hook combined for 2nd place in the Cross Country event and our top five club racers - John Turner, Richard Meinzer, Chip Laput, Monica Meinzer, and Liz Hook, earned us 4th place.  Fred Murray and Ron Cormier's combined time in the Snowboard Event gave us 4th place.  Matthew and Jonathan Spear helped us garner a point in each of the Junior races. Unfortunately we were totally shut out in the four remaining events:  Tug of War, Volleyball (postponed to Sunday), Fun Race, and Rally.  Our sole representative at those events was our president, Jonathan Houck, and we owe him a big MTL thank you.  Please extend the same to John Turner who stepped up to the plate to handle bib assignments for the racers.  Our participation numbers were way down this year.  Some members were precluded from participating due to injuries and others had committed to other activities.  Simply finishing in the middle of the pack in the four Sunday events and the two Junior Racers would have put us solidly in second place and only a few points out of first.  Just wait 'til next year!

Monday Night Racing

Winter was slow in putting in an appearance this year so our Monday Night Racing series was shortened to six races.  A great turnout on the last night solidified our second place finish.  Overall Individual Season winners for MTL were Chip Simplicio, Rob Dexter, Karen Grossman, and Carol Sweeney.  Congratulations!  If you won any award please plan to attend the State Race Awards at 7 pm prior to the regular CSC meeting on April 10th.

Club Race

Club Race 2007 was a success at Pico thanks to Tom Knudsen and his very capable team of volunteers.  Congratulations go out to Club Champions Marguerite and Ricky Meinzer.  Check out all the results

Club Trip

Mt. Laurel returned to beautiful Davos in the Swiss Alps in February.  Europe had been experiencing the same sort of winter as New England but we were fortunate to time our trip to coincide with some significant snowfalls.  The scenery is breathtaking and the skiing as good as you'll find anywhere.  Check out the slideshow.  Eric and Patti Ardolino went above and beyond the call to ensure that we had a spectacular winter vacation.  Tentatively, next year's trip will be to Snowmass in Colorado.

Upcoming Events

Down the road:

Pig Roast Weekend April 13-15

Lip Synch April 18th

Zabbara's Appreciation Dinner.  May 9th. Penny Trick will be coordinating the event and the price will be determined shortly.

And soon!!!

Monday Night Biking

Tuesday Tennis

That's it for the moment.  This new format will have a few bugs in it but I'm confident they can be worked out soon.

Sincerely,
