Issue #49 June 12, 2007
Dear Member,
Wow!  It's almost summer and the club has so many things going on it's difficult to keep track.  We'll try to encapsulate what's been happening and what's just around the corner.  Summer Tennis is in full swing.  This weekend sees the return of the Happy Campers of Mt. Laurel.  Joe and Angie have a sell-out event once again for our camping trip to Portsmouth, RI.  Among member news, we learned that Charlotte LeClair fell and broke her kneecap.  Ouch!  We wish her a speedy recovery.  Bobby LeDoux is holding a tag sale at his home in Manchester this Thursday - Saturday, June 14 - 16. Even the Woody doll is up for sale.  Join Neal Fisher and his dad Harry in an open house at Harry's new home in Berlin Friday, June 29th.  The summer picnic at Currier Woods in Cheshire is scheduled for July 18th.  Remember the club is on the summer schedule and are meeting every other week.  The complete schedule can be found in the calendar.
Annual Banquet Recap
Banquet Planners

Our annual banquet was held May 19th at Wethersfield CC.  Wow, what a party!!!  Our evening hosts, Karen Grossman and Sharon Houck, spearheaded a great effort in running a terrific event.  Thanks go out to all the volunteers to made this evening so successful!  Many lucky members took home very nice raffle prizes.   Alpine and Nordic club race winners were recognized and we learned that our new Ambassador will be Jean Clark.  Well deserved Lifetime memberships were bestowed on Eric Ardolino and Nancy Nolan.  Paul Fehrenbach was recognized for fifty years of continuous membership. The Outstanding Service Award went to Lisa Durland our long-time Lodge Reservationist Extraordinaire, who also coordinated the night's raffle prizes with Aletta Chamberland.  The always-entertaining Bobby Darling Show really kept things hopping.

Vermont Bike Weekend
Bike Weekend Stan and Marge have planned another terrific biking weekend in Vermont July 20-22. Friday kicks off with a Pasta dinner. On Saturday we enjoy the traditional  bike, swim, ice cream stop, and full course dinner.  On Sunday, some members will be kayaking and others playing golf.  This is an event you don't want to miss!
Summer Hikes

Castle CraigHave you participated on a Mt. Laurel Sunday Hike? This shot was taken recently at Castle Craig on June 12th.  Gene Forte was the hike leader. New Hike Chairman, Rick Sullivan, has lined up a terrific series of hikes this season and has posted the information in our calendar.

Kayaking
Kayak-Joe In the past couple of years, there has been a tremendous surge of interest in kayaking among club members and a lot of the credit goes to Fred and Irene Murray and Joe Mangione and Angie Testa.  If you haven't tried this growing sport, now is the time.  Check out the scheduled events.  More are being added to the calendar so check back frequently.
I'm afraid that spammers have rendered our online Forum almost useless.  It never got a lot of use and in the past year has attracted a lot of folks promoting X rated sites, gambling sites, and the usual garbage.  I started requiring preregistration before posting and I now get more than 50 requests a day from the spammers.  I have to review each one to make sure I'm not deleting a legitimate request.  Reluctantly, I've decided that, at least for the time being, the forum should be deactivated.  That decision was endorsed by the members present at the last meeting.  If I can figure out a better resolution, I'll implement it.  Sorry for the inconvenience.
Club Trips
Snowmass We have two attractive trips scheduled for 2008 - Aspen/Snowmass and Jay Peak.  These trips tend to sell out very quickly so be sure to get your reservations in ASAP.
Sincerely,

Uni

Biking!
Jim Mays
Biking is probably the most active pursuit of Mt. Laurel members each summer.  Our Monday Night Biking program spearheaded by Andy LeClair is in full swing.  A big thank you goes out to all those who have hosted rides and will do so in the future.  Next Monday we'll be participating in the Jim Mays Memorial Ride in Bloomfield.  It's been a little over a year since Jim was taken from us and he would have been pleased that we are continuing his ride.  Thanks to Neal Fisher for marking the route.  Leading the Ray Ray Challenge are Gene Forte and Cheryl Woodin.  Can they be caught?
