Mt. Laurel Skiers eBlast

Issue #51 Aug 21, 2007

Dear Patrick,

The days are actually getting cooler.  A few trees are starting to display orange leaves.  Football has returned to the airwaves.  Can winter be far behind?  Mt. Laurel has a very busy lineup of events in the months to come starting with the Saturday's Shelter Island Bike Ride. Our final Monday Night Ride takes place next Monday in Southington.  Kayaking remains active as does hiking.  We won't meet this Wednesday, the 22nd, but the summer schedule then ends and we resume normal weekly meetings. The complete schedule can be found in the calendar. Don't forget that this is Membership Renewal Time (see below).
Membership Renewal Time!!!!!

Renewal formWe've raised procrastination to an art form!!  Membership Chairperson Kay Leatherman reports that some members haven't sent in their membership renewals yet.  Aug 31 is the deadline for our official membership renewal time.  The application can be downloaded here.  Please get your renewal in as soon as possible, make sure we have your correct information & (very important) a current e-mail address.  Kay wants  to thank you all in advance for your prompt attention to the renewal process.   Avoid the late fee and get your renewal in now!  Please mail to the address listed on the application.  Don't you dare let your membership in this incredible organization lapse!

Who is this MTL member????

member100We're starting a contest that will probably run for a year or so.  Each Wednesday in the website, we'll publish the high school graduation photo of a current member.  Guess the identity and submit your answer to webmaster@mtlski.com.  A week later and each succeeding Wednesday at the meeting we will announce who's pictured and how many correct responses we received.  Maybe there should be a prize for the person most folks recognize because that person has changed the least over the years!  So dig out those yearbooks and scan your photo.  Email it to me.  If you don't have the 12th grade photo, I guess we could accept back to 8th grade.  Earlier than that will just be too hard to recognize.  This is going to be fun!

Shelter Island Bike Trip

Shelter Island This coming Saturday, the 25th, sees the return of the always-popular Shelter Island Bike Ride.  John Bazzano is spearheading this event.  Take the ferry from New London to Orient Point.  Lunch will take place at a Fireman's Fundraiser.  If you've never done this ride, you've missed a great one!  Plan on meeting at the ferry in New London at 8:30 am.  The ferry departs at 9:00.  This is a joint ride with New Haven Ski Club and the Appalacian Mountain Club.

Lobster Roast

Lobster The Tradition Continues!  Always a popular event, the Lobster Roast signals the winding down of summer and gets us thinking about fall foliage and the ultimate return to the slopes.  Join us Sunday, September 16th at Winding Trails.  Don't forget to send in your reservation by September 10th.

Open House

Mark your calendars for September 19th when we schedule our annual Open House.  This is the best opportunity to attract new members to this extraordinary organization.   Make it a point to bring at least one potential member that night.  We'll have booths devoted to all our activities as well as representatives of resorts and area ski shops.  Don't miss it!  While we're on the subject of recruiting, remember to keep a supply of our business cards with you at all times.  The cards are in the process of being revised and reordered.

Vermont Hike Weekend

Castle CraigPlan on joining us at the lodge Sept 28-30 for Vermont Hike Weekend.  RIck Sullivan and Jean Delehanty have put together an event that looks to rival any we've done in the past.

Kitty....

Betsy Gaudian reports that a black and white kitten named Minnie needs a home ASAP.  Contact Jim in Farmington at 678-7238.

Club Trips

Snowmass We have two attractive trips scheduled for 2008 - Aspen/Snowmass and Jay Peak.  Aspen has one hotel room left. Jay Peak is sold out of hotel rooms but is taking names on a waiting list.  They do have five 2 bedroom slopeside condos.  Act fast!

Sincerely,

mtsnow

Biking!

Monday Night Biking is winding down after a terrific season!   We have been fortunate to enjoy many different rides and parties this summer, thanks to all those members who agreed to host each Monday.  Eileen Anderson planned a new ride and lasagna party this month; MTL and NSC participated in several joint rides as well.  Thanks also to Trish and Steve; Clyde and Scott; Ron and Lisa for again hosting rides. With one week to go leading the Ray Ray Challenge are Gene Forte and Cheryl Woodin.
