Dear Patrick,

What a difference a year makes!!  Last year at this time MTL members were still biking and playing golf.  This year, we're enjoying epic snow conditions in New England.

Over the past few weeks, we've been treated to a lot of fun events.  Betsy Gaudian hosted our annual Christmas Party on December 12th and we had a terrific turnout.   Awesome music was provided by Mid Life Crisis.  Betsy reports that after deducting for the cost of the party we raised $575 for the Plainville Food Pantry and collected  414 pounds of food!!!!!!  Way to go MTL!!!!   See Photos. Don't forget to check out the photos of Winetasting (thanks Stacy and Ken) and Wassail Weekend (Jack's culinary talents were at their best) at the Lodge. We attended a sports conditioning program and our intrepid hikers have continued to explore the trails of Connecticut.

Ski Vouchers
Submitted by Wayne Cormier

Most of the ski vouchers have been picked up. Thank You.  In addition to Okemo, Susan Forsdick also has all the other mountain ski vouchers.  A ski voucher team member will be at the club meetings on January 2, 9, and 16, and we would like all the vouchers picked up or mailed with a self addressed stamped envelope by then.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation - Susan, Gerti, Liz, & Wayne.

Club Lodge

One of the key selling points when recruiting new members to the club is our terrific lodge near Okemo.  Lisa Durland has put together a webpage with everything you wanted to know about the Vermont House.  There is a PC with a broadband connection for your use on the second floor and our WiFi network can be accessed with 9999999999 (that's ten 9s).

Monday Night Racing
by Pat Moore
slalom
Despite the snowfall in the northeast we haven't been able to start Monday Night Racing as soon as we had hoped.  The first week of racing will now take place on January 7th.  If you're a first time racer, plan on getting there around 6:30 and ask for me, Pat Moore, for a short orientation.  The Mt Southington race number to call, to find out if racing is on for that night is: 860 628-7669 X243 (call after 2:00 on that day) The cost to race for a night for CSC for the 2007/2008 season is $25 for racing and lift ticket. For updates, check out MTL's Racing Page. Important! Remember to bring your MTL membership card for the first night of racing.  If you have not picked up your 2007-2008 CSC Sticker for your membership card, please send a self addressed stamped envelope to Kay Leatherman, 47 Chasse Rd, Wolcott, CT06716, the sticker will be sent to you.  Kay will not be at racing on Jan 7 or at the meeting on Jan 9. Kay has arranged for the club to purchase some terrific new baseball caps for our racers. Racing three times earns a hat!  If you've never raced before, you don't know what you're missing!  Plan on joining us this year.  Pizza follows each race.

Hiking News

Submitted by Rick Sullivan

We're planning a hike/xc/snowshoe event at Stratton Brook Park in Simsbury on Sun day, 12/23. It's posted on the calendar. Meet at Simsbury High School (use parking lot on east side of school).  Simsbury HS is on Farms Village Road (Rt 309), just west of the intersection of Farms Village Rd., Bushy Hill Rd (Rt 167) and West St.  It's a great location for hiking, XC and snowshoeing.  Mostly flat with some inclines, lovely pond and picnic area, scenic covered bridge over the brook and just generally pretty.  It's probably a 1 to 1 1/2 hour event but we can do some additional loops if people want to go longer.  Jeanne Delehanty is event leader (cell 860-748-5858).

High School Photo Contest

member118

Who is this Mt.Laurel member?  It's week 18 of our contest to see if you can recognize members from their high school photos.  Guess the identity and submit your answer to webmaster@mtlski.com.   I won't reveal if you're right or not until the following Wednesdays' meeting. Who was Week 15?  To learn her true identity click here.  Dig out those yearbooks and scan your photo.  If you don't have a scanner, take a digital picture of the photo (no flash!) or just photocopy it.  Snailmail or Email it to me. If you don't have the 12th grade photo, I guess we could accept back to 8th grade.  Earlier than that will just be too hard to recognize.  Photos will change each Wednesday.  Some are easier to recognize than others!

Club Trips

Aspen/Snowmass

We are all set with 84 people to go to Colorado. Dates are February 2-9, 2008. Your final papers will arrive during the first week on January. If you have any last minute questions please call Eric at 203-265-9293 during the day or 860-426-1580 in the evening. Currently about a 4 foot base and great skiing.  We will have an Aspen/Snowmass Orientation  night at the January 9th Wednesday night meeting and documents will be available for all those going on the trip that night

JayPeak

We have three people looking for a fourth (male) to fill a condo, and JayPeak has said that we can still sell both Deluxe and Luxury condos if anyone still wants to go.  The info on the condos is on the registration sheet on the webpage and the entire fee must be paid with the registration as we are already past the deposit deadline.  Call Dave at 860-614-1348 or email Jenny at jennyebner@sbcglobal.net.

Other Important Stuff!

Your On Snow Coordinator this year is Rob Dexter.  He will assemble the team lineups for all the races and fun events taking place at the Connecticut Ski Council's Winter Carnival from February 29th to March 2nd.  It's the perfect start for the folks going up to Jay Peak.  Rob will be picking the lineups for the Team Race and Women's Race but he needs to know which of the following events you'll be participating in:  Club Race, Junior A (10 and under), Junior B (11 to 16), Snowboard Race (only juniors need to preregister), Ski Rally, Fun Race, Volleyball, and Tug of War.  Contact Rob at skicouncil@sbcglobal.net.  Make your lodge reservations early!!!!
