MTL KAYAKING 2009 (save the dates!)
May 16 - Free Kayak Test Drive - Crescent Lake* in Southington, Ct. The hours run from 9 am to 4 pm with 11 am-2 pm reserved for guided half hour kayak tours. In these guided tours you’ll learn the basics of kayak paddling and have a chance to enjoy the peacefulness that only non-motorized boating provides.
May 28 – Intro Lesson at Collinsville Canoe and Kayak from 6-8 p.m. Fee is $39 and must be paid prior to the lesson. 3 people min. 6 people max. First come, first serve on sign-up!

June 14 – Mystic River . Meet at 10:00 a.m. Spray Skirt recommended.
June 21 – Camp Weekend in RI., Kayak with the campers in the vicinity of Portsmouth , RI , maybe even Newport ! Kayaking will begin after we break camp on Sunday.
June 16 - KAYAK I - Introduction to Paddling (Novice) This class includes water safety, launching & docking, paddling techniques, equipment, getting in and out of boats, moving forward, backward, steering and stopping. The cost is $40.00 (includes use of Kayak, Life vest and paddle). This class is for one - two hours. 6:00 PM Crescent Lake Parking Lot. Pre-registration is required. Click here to register.
June 23 - KAYAK II – WATER TRAVEL AND EXPLORATION This class includes safety review, transportation of kayak, progressive paddling techniques and water maneuvers. This is for Kayakers with SOME experience. The cost is $40.00 (includes the use of Kayak, life vest and paddle). This class is for one - two hours. 6:00 PM Crescent Lake Parking Lot Pre-registration is required. Click here to register.
July 19 – Bike Weekend in VT. Kayak in the Brattleboro area in VT on the CT river. Meet in Brattleboro at 11:00 a.m.
August 16 – Great Island (mouth of the CT river) Old Lyme , CT. Meet at 10:00 a.m. Spray skirt recommended.
Sept ? – Thimble Islands , date to be determined
There will also be a rescue lesson scheduled, probably in August, keep your eye on this newsletter for date and location!

Bootleg kayaking can occur any weekend that a member wishes to organize a trip. If you would like to lead a kayak trip on any Saturday or Sunday during June, July, August or early September, let Angie, Joe, Fred or Irene know and an email will be sent out and/or an announcement will be made in the appropriate newsletter. An email list is kept of interested participants for a bootleg trip.
